Summer Game Plan

Hey everyone!

We’ve got some exciting news for you all!

1- Freshmen orientation starts this Thursday. You’re going to see hundreds of new faces join the university. For those of you who have registered tables already, please be sure to be there! Plan on getting to the Governor’s Hall (right outside the Houston Room, 2nd floor UC) at 4:00pm this Thursday. Set up your table and sign up new members!

Michael Blunk tabled for his group, the SSDP, during the transfer orientation and already signed up 8 people! So for all those of you looking to recruit more people - this is your opportunity!

Let’s plan on meeting before this event and setting up where we want to table. Lauren Baker will provide us all with the Progressive Coalition logo etc…

2- UHProgressives.com is up and running!!!! Check out our blog!

You can sign up for an account and post your schedules or upcoming events there (this will be separate from the newsletter though). In order to sign up, you need to contact me on facebook asap!

As for the newsletter; Aaron Alexander is our web developer and he has installed an application that lets us send out our newsletter to an email list. The specifics are with Aaron, so email him to find out how advertise your organization’s events:

Aaron Alexander <aaron@nerdfiles.net>

We will be generating the email list by tabling etc… but it would be very helpful if your group can provide us emails of people you think would be interested in receiving our newsletter.

*Obviously it’s totally up to you to share or not*

That said, it goes without saying that the more people who share, the larger the pool and hence more advertisement for your group’s events.

Also, if you’re going to sign people up at the orientation sessions, then we request that you share those email addresses with coalition, as long as the person consents. So just ask them if they would be interested in receiving a weekly Progressive Coalition newsletter. Benefits include being “in the know” of all progressive activities on campus and getting more involved in the school.

3 - CRI and STAND, working with Abdul Khan, have been working on a divestment plan which they’re going to propose to the SGA this Wednesday (June 4th), at 7:30pm in the Mediterranean room. Please drop by and support them in the meeting!

4- Michael Blunk will be taking over the “Stay After School” project from me, as I’m about to get busy with my parents who are moving in from Pakistan! I will continue my other projects though!

5- By mid or end of June, Chris Busby will arrange another big meeting; the idea is to watch a movie together. Send your suggestions to him or discuss it on the forum!

6- Jordan Ingram, the new opinion editor for the Daily Cougar, is looking for columnists! It’s easy to apply and you get paid $10 per article, so please please please call her: 254 721 5698. She’s sitting right next to me as I type this so she EXPECTS calls! I strongly encourage you to apply, especially since it will look great on your resumes and is a good way to get your organization some spotlight!
